I feel alive today, a mix of energy and contentment wrapped up in a big bow of confidence. I awoke with a sense of knowing of something greater happening, and I just had to get up and move. I quickly got out of bed, dusted off my black cabbie hat and headed to the coffee shop.
As I walked in, the barista already knew what I wanted - a large cup of double shot expresso. I always have the same order - no sugar, no cream - they know me so well here. As I waited, I read the vampire news tabloid I brought with me. It had the latest news about the Vampire Senate meeting in Prague, and I nervously read hoping it wouldn't mention me.
The coffee was finally ready and I eagerly took it to go as I went upstairs to the rooftop patio to enjoy the city skyline. As I sat down in the warm afternoon sun I felt my vampire senses tingle. Someone very close was in some kind of trouble, or perhaps it was me? I glanced around not sure of what I was feeling, noticing the man in the corner watching me.
I took my espresso and sipped it slowly, contemplating what kind of day it was to be. Then I felt him approach and he pulled up a chair next to me. He smiled and said, "I know what you are, Mary Read." startled I replied, "What do you mean?" He looked into my eyes and said, "You are a vampire. I know because I am one, too."
At first I wasn't sure if he was serious, and then I realized he was right. I was a vampire mystic, a special type of vampire that feeds on stress instead of blood. He then asked me to accompany him to his castle outside the city and I felt a surge of excitement course through my veins.
We grabbed a taxi and drove out to his castle. We arrived just in time for dinner, it was a feast fit for a queen, and we had all kinds of exotic dishes. After dinner, we played some vampire games and then we talked about our life stories, laughing and getting to know each other better.
The sun was rising as we said our final goodbyes and he invited me to come back again the following night. I knew deep inside this felt like an adventure of a lifetime, and I would most definitely be back to his castle. I took a long slow look around the castle and had to pinch myself, because I realized I was living my best life.
