Today was one of those days where you never seem to be able to do enough. I was on in a never-ending cycle of shopping, eating, sleeping, and working. I'm sure I must be burning through my money at an alarming rate, but I can't seem to help myself.
The tedium of this feeling was only broken up by the occasional excursion out of the city. This time I ventured into the woods. I felt strangely at home as I explored the forest. I strolled through the dry night air, despite the remains of past fires still lit amongst the dense forest floor.
Suddenly, I heard a rustling. I froze in place. As quickly as it had come, the rustling sound died away. I felt my tension growing, but I could not feel my feet move beneath me. As the seconds passed, I felt a sudden hunger grow within my stomach. My hunger only intensified when I heard the rustling again, this time much closer. I slowly retreated to safety, terrified of what was chasing me.
When I returned to my apartment, I immediately started pacing around my room. I was just about to drown myself in more work when I heard a peculiar sound emanating from above me. I lurched beneath my bed to investigate. It was then that I realized that I had a peculiar pet living in my apartment. It was a small vampire bat, nervously clinging onto the side of my bed.
“What is there to do?” I thought. I slowly crept closer to inspect my newfound pet. I could feel the stress building up in me, and the peculiar hunger growing within me. I felt like I was in a trance as my mouth opened, and I welcomed the vampire bat into my mouth.
The sudden sensation of blood trickling through my veins was unexpected but welcomed. I soon realized the vampire bat was the source of my frequent and intense hunger. I slowly pulled the vampire bat off my teeth and held it in my hands. I spotted its familiar eyes and I felt sheltered and relieved.
Tonight, I will feed my vampire bat companion with freshly barfed-up stress. With new vigor, I returned to frantically tackling my overwhelming to-do list. The energy I had gained from feeding my vampire bat was boundless, and I was able to tackle more than I had expected. I felt like a free spirit despite the grinding repetition of the day that laid ahead.
