Vampirix diary Mary Read

As I looked around the room, I realized that all my friends were vampires as well - and yet I was still the odd one out. They were all decked out in their finest vampire garbs – black cloaks and pale whitish faces – while I was wearing an oversized navy-blue hoodie and warmers despite the chilly but unseasonably warm temperatures.

I took a sip of my Pina Colada and looked out the window at the rain. Although I wasn’t much of a fan of getting caught in the rain, I did appreciate the beauty of a good storm that came and went quickly.

My friends began to laugh as I told them a joke (as I am apparently quite good at that). I smiled, happy to be in their company, as I revelled in both the laughter and the darkness that surrounded me.

"Mary," one of them called out to me, "why don't you tell us a story about your wild pirate days?"

I quickly agreed. It had been so long since I had been able to regale my friends with tales of my wanderings through the seas. I recounted stories of barrels of rum, weapons from countless countries, the unexpected cat I had saved from a storm, and of course, my Dracula-like, bloodsucking adventures.

My friends' eyes were wide with amazement, as if they couldn't believe that I was once such a wild character. They were also intrigued by the fact that I had been able to accumulate so much wealth in my travels, money that they had not been able to obtain with all their vampire abilities. I guessed it was true that money was power after all.

It felt as if I had gone on a journey through time. In some ways, I felt like an ancient princess warrior, and in other ways, I felt like an immortal, living a sort of rebirth. I stretched out my arms and felt the chill of the rain, but I also felt a warmth inside of me that could never be destroyed.

My friends and I laughed and talked long into the night – forgetting the chill of the wind and instead basking in the warmth of friendship. Sooner or later, I must have dozed off, as I felt myself drifting off in the sweetest of dreams.
