Vampirix diary Mary Read

It's been quite the day so far. I woke up with a start after dreaming of something I couldn't quite remember, surrounded by a faint but familiar feeling of dread. Regardless, I gleefully wrote down my ideas for a new money-making scheme, something sure to bring me lots of shiny coins.

I then took a leisurely stroll, enjoying the peace and solitude of the night. I could feel the air shimmering around me as I watched flocks of bats soaring gracefully through the air. The breeze was cool and calming on my skin, though I still found myself feeling a bit antsy.

Unexpectedly, a shape began to appear out of the darkness. I watched, transfixed, as a figure materialized--it was an old man, perhaps in his early sixties, with a kind smile that held centuries of knowledge in its depths. He nodded at me as a greeting and continued on his way, leaving me to ponder as to what sort of magical creature this could be.

I considered taking a quick detour when my favorite Pina Colada jingle suddenly began to play through the air. A hint of a smirk turned the corners of my mouth upwards as I spotted my girlfriends exiting the local mall. We exchanged cheerful hellos and text messages as we followed the tune of the jingle back to my place.

Once at my lair, I waved my friends to the veranda to enjoy a night spent sipping drinks, lounging, chatting and laughing. We talked politics, strategies for drawing more attention to vampire culture, called out each other for being too serious and shared our stories about night flying. Fortunately, no one got too close to the subject of vampires because, as we all know, cats prefer to stay out of that particular discussion.

While the evening was winding down, I couldn't help but to let my mind wander to the distant lands my last night of travel had led me. The ancient princess warrior inside me stirred as thoughts flooded my head of Eastern Europe, vampires, mythical creatures, Dracula's castle. The storyteller within me dreamt up tales of grand adventures and impossible feats. A feeling of thrill and curiosity filled me and I knew I must return soon.

I drew myself back as the clock struck midnight, reminding me there's much to be done and much to experience still. Until the time comes, I'll simply enjoy the present moments, and dream of faraway places.
