Vampirix diary Mary Read

Today has been a pretty typical day here in Leiden. I woke up shortly after sunset dressed in my finest pirate gear - a red vest and tight breeches tucked into my leather boots, and a bandana tied around my neck. I grabbed my leather satchel and made my way to the city center.

The streets were bustling with people, despite the eerie darkness, and the smells of fresh-baked pastries and savory dishes filled the air. Everywhere I looked merchants and peddlers were selling their wares, and I decided to take a few moments to browse the selection.

Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye I saw a small group of Bat-people heading towards the local vampire nightclub. They must have sensed my presence and decided to invite me along. Before I knew it, I was swept up in the crowd and entering through the door into the dark and eclectic club.

Inside, the walls and floors were covered in a sea of black velvet and crimson red roses. An old-fashioned bar served up exotic drinks, and the music was loud and energetic. I took a seat by the far wall and enjoyed the spectacle unfolding around me.

As the night unfolded I was invited to the VIP lounge where I was offered the finest foods and wines, and I sampled some of the freshly-pressed juices served to us by beautiful vampiresses. Everyone was enjoying the company and engaging in small talk. I was having a fun night, but it felt a little odd to be surrounded by bats and fantastic-looking creatures all around.

Just as I was about to leave, I received a surprise invitation to join in a secret game of Hocenfen. I had never heard of it before, but it sounded intriguing and exciting. We all gathered around a table and each of us drew cards from a mysterious black deck. We then played a round of the game which turned out to be a thrilling mix of strategy and luck. It’s been an exhilarating experience, and I can’t wait to play again soon.

Right now, I’m sitting in my apartment, reflecting on the night's events. I'm exhausted, but I'm just so glad to be living a life full of such wild and wonderful experiences.
