Vampirix diary Mary Read

11 Dec 2023

I've always loved being outside at night. There's something about feeling the wind on my face, the stars in the sky - it makes me so alive. Tonight though, something felt different. Maybe it was the full moon peeking from the clouds, or the stillness in the air, but whatever it was I knew it was time to hunt.

I was my usual stealthy self as I flew with the night breeze, gliding through town with silent grace. I found my prey quite quickly – there on the street corner – a group of mortals shaking in fear. Eagerly I swooped down and cast my spell, feeling the thrill of the hunt as the mortals appeared to freeze, completely under my control.

"My name is Mary Read," I said, reveling in the power that my presence conveyed, "and I'm a vampirix. Don't do anything stupid and I won't hurt you." I opened my mouth and sunk my teeth into the nearest mortal's neck. He shivered in response, sending an exquisite rush of flavor and energy coursing through my veins. I finished up just as the sun began to rise, leaving the mortals still paralyzed, unsure of what had happened.

If anyone had asked me before tonight if I enjoyed being a vampirix, I would have said no. Yet here I was, almost giddy with the sheer power and pleasure of the hunt. I certainly won't forget tonight in a hurry.

Back at home I changed into pajamas and made myself a Pina Colada, settling down to watch the news on my laptop. There it was – the story of the mortals under my control, who had been found standing motionless at the street corner, with no recollection of what had happened. I laughed at the headline, remembering the shock and awe I had elicited. It felt good being a powerful vampire.

Turning off the laptop, I succumbed to the drowsiness that had been beckoning me since the hunt was done. I settled down in bed, feeling content and peaceful in the knowledge that I was the only vampirix in town.

Goodnight to all of you,

Mary Read.
