Vampirix diary Mary Read

My day was entirely filled with excitement and anticipation. I woke in a frenzy and immediately busied myself getting ready. I spent hours in front of the mirror, perfecting my look for the night rife with adventure that awaited me.

I was heading out with my best friends, some great female vampires just like me. We were off to the mall and I was eager to hit the shops and pick up some new outfits for the night. Although I’d already become accustomed to the luxury of a life as a vampire, I’d never outgrown my love for bargain hunting. Before long all of us had found a dazzling new dress, and with just a few adjustments they fit perfectly. We were ready for the night.

Once outside, we knew our mission. As powerful vampire warriors, our duty was to hunt down and feed on the stress and anxiety of the normal humans around us. We threw back our heads and laughed as we swooped down on anonymous young prey. It felt like a game, stealing what was left of joy and peace from unsuspecting non-vampiric creatures.

Then dusk rolled in, and with it yet more delicious opportunities arose. I flew ahead of my comrades, playing in the twilight, and with the sky as my canvas, I drew patterns and shapes of fire with my bare hands. To draw from the air the essence of those I had come to conquer was both liberating and exhilarating.

The night ended all too soon - as night always eventually does - and I suddenly remembered the teatime date I had arranged with an old colleague in the industry; the one, they say, with the mesmerising eyes and the smile that could charm a python. I slipped away, before the dawn light revealed me in my gothic glory.

As the day began to wane I sat in a café, submersing myself in the sound of conversation around me, absorbing its energy into my being. I felt pleasantly full. In the end, it may have been an odd day, but it had been an intoxicating one, and I wouldn’t have traded it for all the sleeping-in in the world.
