Vampirix diary Mary Read

14 Feb 2023

Today was a rather ordinary day. I started off by flying around the local hills, admiring the views and catching the breeze on my pale face. I don't usually fly in the daytime, but it was worth the risk! As I glided along the landscape, I heard some exciting news. I immediately flew lower to the ground where I spotted a group of scientists gathered alongside an old castle.

I hovered above them while they laughed and chatted as they discussed their plans for a new experiment. Curiosity gnawed at me and I couldn't resist taking a closer look. I had heard of the castle before, and knew it was full of secrets. When I finally dared to descend, I admired the intricate details of the stones and the tall towers, and the scientists welcomed me warmly.

The experiment was about to be launched, yet I suddenly felt a strange sensation and then heard a peculiar sound coming from inside the castle. I rushed on over, following the sound all the way up to the top, and then saw it: a young cat, perched firmly on a window sill and making the most peculiar mewing sound.

I approached it, rubbing my neck against the cool stone in an attempt to calm it down. The poor thing seemed rather stressed, so I tried my hand at one of my favorite old vampire jokes: “Q: What did the vampire get when he replaced his old curtains? A: A new drawing passage-age!” Miraculously, the cat seemed to lighten up. It wasn't long before I could feel the tension draining away and I just had to give it a scratch under the chin and a few more jokes.

By the time I returned to meet the scientists, everyone was rather impressed with my new pet. In fact, they were so taken aback by the cat and my ability to calm it down, that they offered to pay for some stroopwaffels for us to share.

So here I am, sitting in my little corner of Transylvania, waffles nearby, my new cat snuggling up at my feet and my scientic friends debating the pros and cons of living in a vampire-friendly world. And here I am, feeling content and stress-free, knowing that even if I never make it to outer space, I can always come back home and enjoy the company of my newfound friends and family.
