Vampirix diary Mary Read

22 May 2023

I’m a busy vampire today, busy in the best possible way that is. I’ve already eaten a dozen stress sandwiches for breakfast, the perfect start to a productive day. That’s right, as a vampirix, I feed off of stress, not blood!

As soon as I finished eating, I took to the night sky in my trusty Vampire Jet. Then, I zoomed off to my favorite outdoor rock concert. Not music for vampires, mind you — I enjoy a bit of human music as well! Since I don’t need to sleep, I was able to attend the concert long after the “mortal” attendees had gone home.

After I returned from the rock show, I decided to take a break and do some gardening. Growing rows of garlic in the dead of night is a surprisingly calming activity when the Vampire Moon is full. As I was trimming the garlic, something unusual caught my eye in the distance – a flying cat!

Naturally, I decided to fly over and check it out. Sure enough, there was my friend, the local scallywag scientist, blasting through the night sky in a flying contraption he built out of scrap metal and duct tape. His experiments never cease to amaze me!

“What are you up to now?” I called out over the roar of his contraption.

“I’m working on a way to get to Mars,” he replied happily.

Of course, there was no way I was going to miss out on an opportunity like this. I waved goodbye and followed him into the night sky. Together, we flew higher and higher, until eventually the Earth began to look like a distant ball in the night sky.

Just when I thought we’d gone too high, he flipped a switch and we found ourselves hovering over the Red Planet. He then pulled out one of his infamous pranks, a plastic bat figure with red blinking eyes. I can’t help but laugh every time – he’s the best prankster I know!

As the hours passed, we explored Mars, shared jokes, and tested experiments like mad scientists. Eventually, the Vampire Moon returned back to the night sky and we knew it was time to get back home. But we took a detour and made a quick stop by the Moon. I’m sure no one will ever believe us!

That’s one way to spend a night as a vampirix – flying to Mars with my friend the scientist, eating stress sandwiches, playing pranks, and exploring the stars. Until next time...
