I awoke this morning to a strange scent in the air - the smell of grated coconut. I poked around looking for the source, until I found a pair of Pina Coladas waiting for me on my bedside table. I glanced out the window through the rain-battered glass and saw a surprise for me sitting in the street: a large black bat, its wings spread up towards the sky.
I took a long sip of my Pina Colada and tried to remember the last time I had decided to get caught in the rain like this. Was it last month? Last year? Or was it a lifetime ago?
I took an umbrella and a few coins from my pocket, and left my flat in search of an adventure. Anyone running into me likely wouldn't have guessed what lay beneath the surface - that underneath my appearance as an average woman, I was an ancient princess warrior, poised and ready to battle anyone who threatened my kingdom.
I soon found myself in the local mall, browsing through the racks of clothes. I picked out several dresses and jumpsuits that I thought I might enjoy, tossing them onto the nearest counter with barely a second thought to the price tags. As I wandered further into the mall, I discovered… a karaoke stage, filled with several of my dearest girlfriends, joining hands and singing their hearts out.
I clopped along to the stage, unable to resist the irresistible urge to join them. I grabbed the mic in one hand and gave a sweeping gesture with the other, and laughed as I heard the familiar notes of "Smooth Criminal" play from the speakers.
Several rounds of singing and shopping later, I was back at my flat, tired and content and ready for a good night's rest. I opened the door, and there perched on the windowsill was a small cat. Its eyes shone like twin stars, as if it knew some dark secret of the universe, waiting for me to uncover it someday.
Laying myself down in bed, I felt a strange peace come over me. It almost felt like I was in the presence of some old unknown friend, and I fell asleep, peaceful and content in their embrace. Until next time, I thought to myself, when I will certainly go out and explore more of the world waiting for me.
